We have visited the trendy design hotel by Marriott to assess its level of accessibility. Our inspection included a thorough review of the hotel premises as well as the accessible rooms.
The hotel is situated in a harbor district in the northern part of Amsterdam. It takes just 20 minutes to reach the center of Amsterdam from here. A large parking garage, directly linked to the hotel, is available for parking your car at a rate of 30 euros per day. While there are currently no designated accessible parking spaces, there is ample parking space available.
There are two accessible rooms on each floor of the hotel. The news delighted us!
Rooms for guests with special needs
Contemporary hotel rooms featuring industrial decor and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the harbor area, offering stunning sunset views. Choose between two single beds or a queen-sized bed.
Bed
The bed is 71 cm high. The light switch is conveniently located next to the bed, easily reachable even when lying down. The space next to the bed may be limited, depending on the size of your wheelchair. The bed height is not adjustable.
Is there a carpet? Yes, but it can be rolled up, making it accessible for manual wheelchair users as well.
Bathroom
The entrance has a very small threshold of 3 cm, which should not pose any difficulty for entry. The bathroom features a roll-in shower with a shower seat attached to the wall. The toilet is equipped with handles on both sides. The sink is cabinet-free, allowing wheelchair users to roll underneath.
The height underneath the sink is 66 cm from the floor.
The shower chair is positioned at a height of 47.5 cm from the floor.
The handles on both sides of the toilet are located at a height of 71.5 cm from the floor.
Pool & sauna area
Access limited to individuals capable of climbing stairs or walking, or those who can be assisted by a strong person.
Gym area
Accessible for wheelchair-users as well. Engage in weightlifting or use the boxing equipment to maintain fitness.
Lobby, views & drinks
Relax in cozy and inviting spaces, perfect for socializing, working, or unwinding. Enjoy drinks, snacks, and games with friends or make new acquaintances. The bar is conveniently located next to the front desk for easy access to both your room key and a cocktail.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served in the morning on the ground floor, next to the check-in desk. The self-service breakfast area features a high counter but is accessible for individuals in a seated position.
Our impression
This stylish oasis is perfect for a couple of days visiting the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam. The down town in which the hotel is located area is not fully crowded with tourists, which can be a delight after exploring the heart of the city. Accessibility is good and the staff will assist you however they can. We love the playful design elements, the location in the harbor area and that there is a Live DJ at Bar Moxy every friday evening ;)
