Hotel Review: La Caleta Tenerife

Located in the south of Tenerife, Sheraton La Caleta Resort & Spa is situated at the seafront with direct access to the coastline boulevard. The resort is surrounded by a beautiful garden and gives a lovely oasis vibe.

The resort offers 284 rooms and 20 suites featuring private terraces with all amenities and services necessary to have a pleasant stay. At least two accessible hotel rooms on the 2nd floor are available for people with less mobility.

The accessible hotelroom

The upgraded deluxe room overlooking the garden features a queen-sized bed, closet, desk, chair, spacious bathroom with a separate toilet, and a balcony with seating, making it ideal for a tranquil vacation.

While this room offers sufficient space for manual wheelchair users, it may be slightly cramped for those using electric wheelchairs. The roll-in shower comes with a shower chair without wheels, which, unfortunately, proved to be quite unstable. The toilet and bidet are situated in the same room with handles, but they are positioned too far from the toilet seats, making them somewhat challenging to use. Additionally, the bed height may pose a safety concern during transfers. While these features may suit some individuals, their convenience may vary based on your specific disability.

Overall hotel accessibility

The pathways within the hotel and outside are wheelchair-accessible, but not all outdoor areas are completely accessible due to some sections having stairs. Wheelchair users have a designated route to follow. All restaurants are easily accessible, and the elevator provides access to the pool area.

For breakfast, you have the option to dine at the restaurant located downstairs near the pool area. Here, you can either help yourself to the buffet or choose to be served. Room service is also available for snacks, dinner, or breakfast.

Pool area

Two pools are both doable to reach as a wheelchair user. To enter the pool, help is needed. The pools both have stairs to enter the water. The best option is to visit the salt water pool which has a part that is easier to enter to water. With help from someone you could enter the water when being lifted. There is not special pool equipment available.

Experience

Staying at this lovely hotel with its beautiful gardens is a pleasure, even for wheelchair users. Interested in watching a video showcasing this hotel? While there is potential for improvement in terms of accessibility for solo travelers, the current level of accessibility is sufficient for enjoying a stay with a partner, family, friends, or a caretaker.
